If GoodSync repeatedly changes to a different edition or will not activate with an available license, the device may be receiving an incorrect GoodSync installer from an automated software deployment tool.
Deployment tools such as WinGet, RoboShadow/Rubicon, remote monitoring and management (RMM) platforms, endpoint-management systems, domain policies, startup scripts, or scheduled software installations can reinstall an application without direct user action.
Important: Reinstalling the correct GoodSync edition directly on the device may only resolve the issue temporarily. If the automated deployment continues using the wrong installer, it can replace the correct edition again. The installer configured in the deployment tool must be corrected first.
- Why this happens
- Common signs of an automated reinstallation
- Verify the license and installed platform
- Locate the automated deployment
- Select the correct GoodSync installer
- Correct the deployment package
- Reinstall and verify GoodSync

Why this happens
GoodSync Personal, GoodSync Workstation, and GoodSync Server use different installer packages. The installed GoodSync platform must match the license assigned to the device:
- GS-Personal must use a GS-Personal license.
- Workstation must use a Workstation license.
- Server must use a Server license.
If a deployment tool installs a different edition, the installed platform and assigned license will no longer align. The device may then be unable to activate with the purchased license.
Example: A device has a GoodSync Workstation license, but its software deployment policy is configured to install GoodSync-vsub-Setup.exe , which installs the GS-Personal edition. Even if the Workstation edition is installed manually, the deployment policy may later replace it with GS-Personal. The policy must instead use GoodSync-vsub-Workstation-Setup.exe .
Common signs of an automated reinstallation
An automated deployment may be involved if:
- The correct GoodSync edition is installed but changes again later.
- GoodSync becomes unlicensed after previously activating successfully.
- The Platform and Licenses values in the GoodSync Account do not match.
- GoodSync is installed or updated when no user initiated the installation.
- An installation log references a deployment product, a system download folder, or a temporary deployment path.
- An installation log shows that the installer ran under the Windows SYSTEM account.
An installation performed under SYSTEM commonly indicates that a service, package manager, endpoint-management platform, or other administrative process initiated it rather than the signed-in user.
Verify the license and installed platform
- Go to the GoodSync Account Login page and sign in to the account associated with the subscription.
- Select Devices from the menu on the left.
- Locate the affected device.
- Compare the Platform and Licenses columns.
- Confirm that both values match.
For a complete explanation of the Licenses, Devices, and Subscriptions pages, see GoodSync Account License Understanding.
Locate the automated deployment
If the device is managed by a business or organization, contact the system administrator responsible for software deployment. The administrator should review all systems that can install or update applications on the affected device.
- Search the deployment platform for packages, policies, scripts, or application assignments containing GoodSync.
- Review the exact installer filename or download URL configured in each deployment.
- Check whether the deployment runs on a schedule, at startup, during device check-in, or when the installed application differs from the configured package.
- Review domain policies, scheduled tasks, RMM scripts, package-manager commands, and endpoint-management assignments that may reinstall GoodSync.
- Pause or remove the incorrect deployment before reinstalling GoodSync locally.
If the same package is assigned through more than one tool or policy, each assignment must be reviewed. Correcting only one deployment source may allow another source to reinstall the wrong edition later.
Select the correct GoodSync installer
Replace the package in the deployment tool with the installer that matches the purchased subscription and the device operating system.
GoodSync Personal
- Windows: GoodSync-vsub-Setup.exe
- macOS: goodsync-vsub-mac.zip
GoodSync Workstation
- Windows: GoodSync-vsub-Workstation-Setup.exe
- macOS: goodsync-vsub-Workstation-mac.dmg
GoodSync Server
- Windows Server: GoodSync-vsub-Server-Setup.exe
Additional installers for supported operating systems and NAS devices are available from the GoodSync Download Center.
Important: Do not select an installer based only on the GoodSync version number. The installer must match both the device operating system and the assigned subscription license.
Correct the deployment package
- Stop or pause the deployment that uses the incorrect installer.
- Replace the configured installer file or download URL with the correct package.
- Update any script, package manifest, or command that references the previous installer filename.
- Clear the deployment tool's package cache if it continues distributing a previously downloaded installer.
- Confirm that old GoodSync packages or duplicate assignments are no longer targeted to the device.
- Test the corrected deployment on one device before applying it to additional devices.
The deployment source must be corrected before the local installation. Otherwise, the deployment tool may overwrite the corrected installation during its next scheduled check or software-enforcement cycle.
Reinstall and verify GoodSync
- Confirm that the incorrect automated deployment has been stopped or corrected.
- Install the GoodSync package that matches the assigned license.
- Open GoodSync and sign in to the GoodSync Account associated with the subscription.
- Activate the device with an available license if activation is still required.
- Return to the Devices page in the GoodSync Account.
- Confirm that the Platform and Licenses values now match.
- Allow the deployment tool to complete its next scheduled check, then verify that the correct GoodSync edition remains installed.
Information to provide to GoodSync Support
If the correct installer is configured but the license issue continues, provide the following information when contacting GoodSync Support:
- The affected device(s) name.
- The GoodSync subscription license type assigned to the device.
- The Platform and Licenses values displayed on the GoodSync Account Devices page.
- The name of the software deployment tool or management platform.
- The exact GoodSync installer filename or download URL being deployed.
- The GoodSync installation log from the affected device.
- How long it takes for the incorrect edition to return after the correct edition is installed.
If the deployment tool is confirmed to be sending the wrong installer, the package or policy must be corrected by the administrator who manages that deployment system.
