This article applies to both GoodSync for Windows and GoodSync for Mac unless noted otherwise.
Automatic jobs should have Automatic Conflict Resolution configured. This allows the job to continue running when a conflict is detected, instead of stopping and waiting for user action.
This article explains the available Automatic Conflict Resolution options and how GoodSync can handle conflicts without user interaction.
To configure Automatic Conflict Resolution, follow the steps below:
1) Select your job and click Options in the toolbar.
2) Next, enable Automatically Resolve Weak Conflicts.
When this option is enabled, GoodSync will automatically resolve weak conflicts without requiring user action.
Weak conflicts can occur when files on both sides have the same size, but the modification time is missing, and one side does not have generations because the State File was lost.
In this situation, GoodSync resolves the conflict by choosing the side that has generations, or the file that has a modification time.
3) Click the dropdown menu next to Automatically Resolve Conflicts (strong ones).
This menu provides the available options for handling strong conflicts automatically.
Note: This option applies only to 2-way sync jobs. One-way jobs do not produce conflicts.
Do Not Copy: This is the default option. Conflicting files are left unresolved and are not copied.
Left Side Wins: The file on the left side is used. If a conflict occurs, the left-side file will be copied to the right side.
Right Side Wins: The file on the right side is used. If a conflict occurs, the right-side file will be copied to the left side.
Newer Files Win: The file with the newest modification time is used.
Stop Sync: The sync stops when a conflict is detected.
4) To keep the losing file instead of deleting it, enable Conflict Resolution: Rename Losing File, not Delete.
When this option is enabled with Automatically Resolve Conflicts, GoodSync will not delete the file that is lost during conflict resolution.
Instead, the losing file is renamed using the following format:
FileName (Conflicted Copy from COMPUTER on DATE).ext
The renamed conflicted copy is stored in both the Left and Right folders.
5) Once you have chosen conflict resolution settings relevant to your job, click "Save" to commit the change.
