GoodSync allows you to select multiple folders or individual files under a common root folder and synchronize them through a single Job.
The Multiple Folders/Files feature creates folder-level Include and Exclude Filters within that Job; it does not create a separate Job for each selected folder.
IMPORTANT: Select the top-level root folders on both sides before choosing the individual folders or files you want the Job to process.
The screenshots below show GoodSync for Windows. On macOS, the file-selection option is labeled Show Files instead of Show Files and Links.
1) Open or Create a Job
- Open GoodSync.
- Create a new Job or open an existing Job.
- When creating a new Job, enter a Job name and select the Job type:
- Backup for a 1-Way Job.
- Synchronize for a 2-Way Job.
2) Select the Left and Right Root Folders
- Click Browse on the Left side and select the top-level root folder that contains all the folders you want to include.
- Click Browse on the Right side and select the corresponding root folder.
Do not select each individual folder yet. You will make those selections after enabling Multiple Folders/Files.
3) Enable Multiple Folders/Files
- With the Folder Select Browse Mode open, locate the option in the upper-right corner.
- Click Multiple Folders/Files.
A folder tree with selection boxes will appear. Use this tree to include or exclude the folders and files the Job should process.
4) Understanding the Folder Selection Boxes
Checked - Included
A checked box means the folder is explicitly included in the Job. GoodSync adds the folder to the Job's Include Filters.
Red X - Excluded
A red X means the folder is explicitly excluded from the Job. GoodSync adds the folder to the Job's Exclude Filters.
Unchecked - Not Selected
An unchecked box means the folder is not selected. If the root folder is unchecked, the entire root folder is not synchronized, and GoodSync does not create a separate Exclude Filter for it.
Gray Checked - Included by a Parent Folder
A gray checked box identifies a child of an included folder. The child is selected automatically and does not create its own filter entry.
5) Select Individual Files (Optional)
To include or exclude individual files inside the selected folders, enable Show Files and Links. On macOS, enable Show Files.
Use the same selection boxes to include or exclude individual files.
6) Apply and Review the Selection
- After making your selections, click Apply.
- Open Job > Options > Filters.
- Review the filters created by your selections:
- Include Filters contain the folders and files you explicitly checked.
- Exclude Filters contain the folders and files you marked with a red X.
7) Understand How the Folders Are Mapped
- Multiple folders are typically selected on the Left side of the Job.
- GoodSync maps the selected folders to the Right side based on their Longest Common Ancestor folder.
- For a Right-to-Left 1-Way Job, select multiple source folders on the Right side and use a single destination root folder on the Left side.
8) Analyze and Sync the Job
- Click Analyze to preview the proposed changes.
- Confirm that only the intended folders and files are listed and that the copy direction is correct.
- Click Sync to run the Job.
IMPORTANT: If Analyze displays an unexpected folder, file, or action, return to the Multiple Folders/Files selection or the Job Filters and correct the configuration before clicking Sync.
