Backup and synchronization in GoodSync are performed using a GoodSync Job.
A GoodSync Job defines:
- The Left and Right sides, which are the source and destination folders.
- The job direction, such as one-way backup or two-way synchronization.
- The options that control how data is analyzed, copied, deleted, and synchronized.
In the example below, we will create a simple Backup Job using a local folder as the source and a Google Drive cloud storage account as the destination.
NOTE: Links to the full list of GoodSync Job options are available at the bottom of this article.
1) Open GoodSync and click the "New Job" button in the toolbar, or, in the "Job" menu, select "New."
2) In the New GoodSync Job prompt:
Enter a name for the new Job.
Select the Job Type:
- Backup: Copies files, folders, and deletions from the Left side to the Right side.
- Synchronize: Copies files, folders, changes, and deletions in both directions between the Left and Right sides.
After making your selection, click the "OK" button.
3) Click the Left or Right browse button to select the files or folders for that side of the Job.
4a) Select the folder you wish to back up to a Google Drive account on the Left side. Then, click "Google Drive" on the Right side.
4b) You will be prompted to authorize GoodSync to access the Google Drive account used for the backup destination.
Click "Connect to Google Drive" and complete the authorization process.
5) On the Left side, select the local folder you want to back up.
On the Right side, select "Google Drive" as the backup destination.
Then, click the "Apply" button in the upper-left corner.
6) Click the "Analyze" button to review the proposed changes before running the Job.
7) Review the proposed changes.
The green arrows show the direction in which files will be copied or updated.
When ready, click the "Sync" button to run the Job.
8) Your files are now backed up.
When the source and destination folders match, GoodSync displays the green equals sign icon to show that both sides are in sync.
