The GoodSync app for Android allows you to access GoodSync's file backup and synchronization capabilities from your Android device.
To install the GoodSync app for Android, follow the steps below:
1) Open your Android device and tap the "Google Play" or "Play Store" app.
2) Use the search bar at the top of the screen to search for "GoodSync."
3) Tap the search result for "GoodSync."
4) Tap the blue "Install" button on the GoodSync page.
5) After the download and installation process is complete, tap the blue "Open" button.
Continue to the "Initial setup" chapter to configure GoodSync for operation.
Initial setup
1) Upon the first run of GoodSync for Android, you will be prompted to allow the app to send you notifications. Tap the "Allow" button.
2) Next, you must grant permission to manage files on your Android device to GoodSync.
Tap the "Device Storage" item, then tap "Grant access" when a prompt appears.
3) You will be redirected to the "All files access" page.
There, turn on the "Allow access to manage all files" switch and tap the back arrow in the upper left corner.
4) Now, let's enroll your Android device into the GoodSync Account so it will be reachable from your other GoodSync installations.
Tap the "Explorer" tab (indicated as the GoodSync logo) in the bottom left corner of the app screen.
5) Tap the 3-dot icon in the upper right corner and tap "Sync accounts."
6) You will be presented with a GoodSync Account Setup screen.
If you already have an Account, choose the option to Log in and skip to Step 8.
If you do not already have a GoodSync Account, select the option to Register a new account, and Step 7 will guide you through the process.
7) Enter your name, the email address you would like to use with your Account, and a secure password that you will be able to remember.
NOTE: The email must be an active email address, as it will be used for One Time Password (OTP) authentication.
Once you have entered your information, tap the blue "Register" button.
8) On the next screen, you will be prompted to specify the device name as it will appear in GoodSync Connect and choose if the GoodSync app is to serve files to other devices enrolled into your GoodSync Account.
"Serve files to other devices" unchecked: GoodSync installed on this computer can make outgoing requests only and cannot accept incoming requests.
"Serve files to other devices" checked: GoodSync installed on this computer can accept incoming requests. You will be able to access data located on the Android device from your other GoodSync installations.
Select your preferred setting. Then, tap the blue "Next" button.
9) After the GoodSync Account Setup is complete, you will be brought to the "Server" tab and may be prompted to disable battery restrictions on the GoodSync app. Tap "OK" on the prompt.
10) That will bring you to the "Battery optimization" page of the device's settings.
There, tap the "Not optimized" drop-down and tap "All apps" from it.
11) Scroll down to GoodSync and tap it. Tap the "Don't optimize" option and tap "Done" to save the changes.
12) Once done, tap the back arrow in the upper left corner to return to the GoodSync app.
13) GoodSync for Android is now ready for use.
NOTE: You have the option to add a layer of security to your account by creating a PIN to access GoodSync on this device.
To do so, follow these steps:
a) Tap the 3-dot icon in the upper right corner and select "Preferences."
b) Scroll down to the "Application" section and tap "Security."
c) Check the box labeled "Lock GoodSync" and then check the box marked "PIN."
d) Enter your new PIN, and you will be prompted to re-enter it to confirm.
e) Your new PIN is now set.
If your Android device has biometrics (face or fingerprint authentication) enabled, you can use them to unlock the GoodSync app.
Check the "Biometrics" box and authenticate using biometrics for that.
